The Dangers of 18-Wheel Trucks
When it comes to getting large amounts
of cargo across the country in an efficient manner, 18-wheeler trucks are one of
the most commonly used means of transportation. The size and power of the trucks
allow for large, heavy loads to travel quickly from one location to another.
That same size and power that makes these trucks so efficient also creates
potential danger on the roads that they travel. Normal sized vehicles have to
share the road with the 18-wheelers and have almost no chance of fairing well
after a collision with the over-sized vehicles.
After numerous accidents, it has almost become common knowledge that drivers
should stay out of the blind spots of 18-wheelers. However, accidents still
occur as a result of this situation. It is important to be aware that the
drivers of these large trucks can't always see you and that serious injury could
occur if you sit in a trucker's blind spot for too long.
Another serious concern that comes with 18-wheelers is that the drivers often
speed. The drivers of these trucks have a destination to get to and they want to
get there as fast as possible. When the driver chooses to exceed maximum speed
limits, they are creating an even more dangerous situation. It is very difficult
to stop large trucks after they have a large amount of momentum. Given the size
of these trucks combined with high speeds, normal cars and the people inside
them don't stand a chance if a collision occurs.
With the number of cars and trucks that fill our roads every day, accidents are
inevitably going to occur. The people inside smaller cars don't stand a chance
if a collision occurs with the 18-wheelers that they have to share the road
with. This situation is much like the big kids playing with the smaller kids.
Parents like to split them up to avoid the larger kids hurting the smaller ones.
The difference is that we can't split up the large trucks and smaller cars.
If you or someone you know has been involved in an accident with an 18-wheeler,
there might be a chance to recover damages if the accident was the result of the
truck driver's negligence. Seek legal counsel to determine if your case is one
that should be pursued.
